Andy Newman dies aged 73

Andy NewmanThunderclap Newman had a No. 1 hit in 1969 with “something in the air” died on March 30th 2016.

After there hit Newman became dormant working as an electrician until in 2010, when he put together a new version of Thunderclap Newman, featuring Pete Townsend’s Nephew Josh & Big Country’s drummer Mark Brzezicki. They recorded the album “Beyond Hollywood” and played live shows with an appearance at the 2010 Isle of Wight festival.

I personally knew Andy in the early 70’s, I remember going out on the River Thames in his outboard motor boat. We had such good time together.

“He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him personally, and by his wonderful music,” he wrote amid a flood of tributes from friends, family and fans.
