SINGER OF FLOWER POP DIES AGED 73.
Scott Mckenzie , who had a number one hit with San Francisco (be sure to wear some flowers in your hair) 1n 1967 has died. He was a close friend of Mamas and Papas star John Phillips, who wrote and produced the San Francisco track. It was released in May 1967, it became a global hit and an anthem for the 1960s culture movement. He was found by a neighbour in his home on the 19th August 2012 he had been in the hospital but wanted to be in his home when he died, a heart attack is suspected. He was born Philip Wallach Blondheim in January 1939, the singer, songwriter and guitarist grew up in North Carolina where he lived with his grandparents while his widowed mother worked in Washington DC. Mckenzie released two solo albums, before dropping out in the late 60s and moving to Virginia Beach, after struggling with the pressures of fame.
